Sweet Chelsea had to overcome more hurdles in her first 3 years of life than most have to overcome in a lifetime. Chelsea came to Grace from Sacramento County Animal Control. She was seized from her owner because her owner failed to treat a serious injury that Chelsea had received to her leg. While veterinarians believed that if she received the proper treatment she would recover completely, they knew it would take months of care to heal. For this reason Chelsea was slated for euthanasia and Grace was her only hope. For months upon months our veterinarian and crew tended to Chelsea’s wound and Chelsea responded with patience and calm as if she knew how lucky she was to have the opportunity to heal. This beautiful young horse not only had to endure daily treatment and wraps but she could not run and play like a normal 2 year old. Finally after 7 months of treatment, the wound seemed to be healed … then the unthinkable happened, Chelsea coliced.
Fear turned to disbelief as upon exam it was determined that now 3 year old Chelsea was pregnant and nearly full term. Sadly, she was also impacted and the only way to save her was to do an surgery. She was given a 50/50 chance of survival and regardless of the outcome the surgery would cost thousands of dollars. But, after all that she had been through it was unimaginable not to give her a chance. Miracles sometimes do come true and Chelsea and her foal came through the surgery just fine. Less than a month later little Buck was born. If there was ever a horse that deserved a happily ever after forever story and home, Chelsea is the one.
This sweet girl has wonderful ground manners and the patience of a saint. Now Chelsea is ready to begin a well deserved wonderful life with a special someone that would like to give her a lifetime of love, kindness and care.
